The Book
This is a clear and concise account of the conflict in Nepal. It is written in a simple style and avoids technical jargon, so that the ordinary reader can get a sense of the realities of Nepal's complex setting and how this has led to conflict. It sets out the history, caste and ethnic composition, geographical terrain and political developments of the country, and shows how there has been a failure in integrating the peoples of this extraordinarily diverse country into a unified nation state. This failure has led to the present tragic situation of the nation.
Other weaknesses, such as inadequate development, corruption, are outlined and make depressing reading. The final section, however, gives a feel of the extraordinary potential of Nepal when it emerges from its present tragic conflict.
