The Book
This study is an attempt to understand the complexities, problems and challenges in Nepal’s quest for development and change. The book focuses on the issues of development in the far-western hills of Nepal, which const9itutes the most backward region of the country.
What does development and change mean for a country like Nepal? To What extent it has been possible to meet challenges of basic needs over a period of more than half a century? What have been the implications of the exposure of backward region to outside environment? What are the instruments and the mechanism to bring up the process of development and change in the remote hill of Nepal? These are many of the issues that this study tries to address itself too.
The far-western hills of Nepal are gradually coming out of the dark ages of backwardness and negligence. There are sings of infrastructure development and socio-economic mobilization, but the pace is also and inadequate. The question of their sustainability on a long-term basis is also important. It is hoped that the book will interest the students of development studies in general and Nepali studies in particular.
